Discover the exclusive behind-the-scenes look of this collaboration Last April, MUGLER launched a new artistic collaboration with ECAL (l’Ecole cantonale d’art de Lausanne), an institution regularly ranked among the top 10 Art and Design schools in the world.
Encouraging young designers
The collaboration between ECAL and MUGLER began in September 2017 when the school approached MUGLER for a workshop as part of its Bachelor in Photography program, directed by fashion photographer Philippe Jarrigeon. Eager to encourage young designers and always in search of innovation, MUGLER accepted ECAL’s invitation and loaned 20 pieces from its archives to the Bachelor students. Along with stylist Victoire Simonney and makeup artist Kathy Le Sant, these young talents had the daunting task of reinterpreting the Maison’s legendary fragrances and some of its iconic looks: the embroidered sheath dress from the 1997 Spring-Summer Haute Couture collection, “Les Insectes,” the rainbow suit from the 1990 Hawaii Spring-Summer collection, and the « Angel » dress, which is embroidered from top to bottom with Swarovski crystals, from the 1992 Ritz Fall-Winter Haute Couture collection.
I want to start a new culture around MUGLER, a culture in continual dialog with other disciplines, especially art. It was an honor and a true pleasure to be able to allow the ECAL students access to the incredible MUGLER legacy and to see them reinterpret it with such talent and boldness. This project is the first in a long series of collaborations between MUGLER and young artists.Casey Cadwallader, MUGLER’s Creative Director
The students’ photographs and videos were then carefully selected by Casey Cadwallader, the new MUGLER Ready-to-Wear Creative Director, who was highly impressed by the quality of their work.
The works of Cynthia Amman, Luna Conte, Théa Giglio, Lucie Deluz, Guillaume Lamarre, Hugo Plagnard, Charlotte Tronchot, and Eliott Villars will be displayed on ECAL and MUGLER's social media platforms and websites.
